Green Cleaning https://balancingwings.ca/greencleaning https://balancingwings.ca/greencleaning#comments Fri, 07 Apr 2017 14:57:53 +0000 https://balancingwings.ca/?p=178 Read More →]]> Welcome to the Green Cleaning Class!

Post 1: Green Cleaning is the way to go these days and it’s really something to feel good about! It reduces toxicity in our homes, is good for the environment, is better for the overall health of everyone in your home and can save you money! Who’s ready to learn more about green cleaning?

Post 2: Switching over to go green with your cleaning can be overwhelming for some. Where do you start? You can replace things slowly as you run out of certain cleaning products or you can give away what you have and start fresh. Do what works best for you! Here are some of the most commonly used ingredients. You can get castile soap on Amazon(*Link below) the others are easily found at the grocery store.

*(https://www.amazon.com/Dr-Bronners-Pure-Castile-Liquid-Soap/dp/B00DAI76TC/ref=as_sl_pc_tf_til?tag=breathethegif-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=0d639c3e87ccf2fdb165a380772741a7&creativeASIN=B00DAI76TC)

Post 3: Let’s start with the grossest room in the house, the bathroom! This homemade soft scrub cleanser is great stuff to clean hard water and soap scum. You can use it to clean the bathroom sinks, counters, bathtub and shower (as well as the kitchen sink too!). I add some white vinegar to any spots of extra hard water that aren’t coming off. Shiny and clean!!

Post 4: Now for the toilet… Here’s how to tackle cleaning the bowl: first, flush the toilet so the bowl is wet. Next, sprinkle about ½ cup of baking soda around the inside of the bowl, then drop in about 4 drops of melaleuca oil. Add ¼ cup of white vinegar and let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing with a brush. If you have really hard water, try using a pumice stone to scrub away extra hard water build up. It won’t scratch and cleans it up so fast! I can usually find them at the local janitorial supply store or on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Elevate-Essentials-Pumice-Stone-Scouring/dp/B00YOE2MPO/ref=as_sl_pc_tf_til?tag=breathethegif-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=8c44a95f8133dc1ec8ef4c630bc510a5&creativeASIN=B00YOE2MPO).

Post 5: There’s no need for Febreze or Lysol in the bathroom anymore! You can use this poopourri in the toilet before you go or as an air freshener. It works so well at eliminating odors!

Post 6: For a general all-purpose cleaner, On Guard concentrate cleaner is amazing! Mix 1 Tablespoon of the cleaner with 12 oz of water in a plastic spray bottle and it’s ready to go! You can use this to clean kitchen counters, windows, mirrors (it does not streak at all!), stainless steel kitchen appliances, the toilet seat, and wherever else! I have also used this dilution to spot clean carpets and upholstery! You can use a little of the concentrate cleaner in your mop bucket or as a laundry booster too. Lots of possibilities for this one bottle! If you would rather, you can also make an all-purpose cleaner with just water and essential oil! Add 6 drops of either lemon or On Guard to a glass spray bottle. Shake, spray and wipe!

Post 7: For when those spills happen on furniture or in the car, this is an amazing leather cleaner! It cleans the leather without removing any color and without leaving big dark spots where you cleaned it.

For an upholstery cleaner, use this recipe (or the diluted On Guard concentrate) and if there is a lingering odor, use the mattress cleaner.

Post 8: When dusting, things stay cleaner longer if you can use an oil. Plus, it’s moisturizing for the wood! Here’s a good recipe that has several options of oils you can use and the citrus is sure to lift your mood while you clean 🙂

Post 9: Now on to the laundry! On Guard laundry detergent is excellent and the best part is that you only need 2 Tablespoons! It cleans wonderfully and doesn’t irritate sensitive skin. Here’s a recipe for a stain remover as well as a tried and true homemade bleach recipe!

Post 10: Fabric softeners smell great, but those smells are chemicals! Did you know that white vinegar is a natural fabric softener?! You can pour it right in your washer in the fabric softener dispenser. Your clothes will not smell like vinegar when they dry – I promise! Plus, this helps keep your washer clean too! You can also use *wool dryer balls in the dryer to help eliminate static and prevent wrinkles. If you want to put a few drops essential oils on the balls to add some scent to your clothes, you can!

Post 11: Let’s move on to the kitchen! Here’s a paste you can use to clean your oven and since its approaching grilling season, you may need to clean the grill up too! The On Guard cleaner concentrate is good for cleaning up grease spills and the outside of the BBQ too.

Post 12: How about a good fruit and veggie cleaner? When you’re done with your food prep, pop one of these in your garbage disposal and have the whole sink smelling fresh! Just one batch makes quite a few!

Post 13: There are so many oils you can add to your mop water! The most commonly used oils for cleaning are On Guard, Purify, lemon, wild orange and melaleuca. But add an oil you like the smell of to your mop water for a little aromatherapy while you clean! I know some people like to use Citrus Bliss or peppermint and wild orange.

Post 14: If you like to use cleaning wipes at your house for a quick easy clean up, this is a great recipe! Love that they are safe for the kids to use to help clean too 🙂
